Default DVD-RW life span

According to PC World's Senior Associate Editor Melissa J. Perenson, optical drive vendors claim that "the expected point of vailure for a DVD-RW burner is about 50,000 to 75,000 hours of operation -- whether hte PC is active, or simply drawing power in standby mode. Although a drive failure can occur just a few months after vigorous use, the best drives can last five eyars or even more. Heat is your drive's greatest enemey; you can avoid premature failure by ensuring your PC has good internal air circulation."

I guess we should all invest in a lapinator to save our computers.
