Question Antenna on cell phone

Does extending the antenna on today's cell phones really help reception? I know the old bag phones could be helped by moving antenna around, but the new compact phones don't seem to get any change in signal.

I don't think they do a thing except make us think we have a boost for signal---lol----I have used mine in mid conversation and it did not do a thing!!!!!

I agree with you, I think they are just there to make us think we can improve our signal. I have totally unscrewed the antenna and the reception bars don't even change then!

We have an exterior antenna on our pickup and it does help. There are many times when we keep getting dropped calls without it and then we'll hook it up and there are no more dropped calls. Although, there are some areas like down by the Missouri River where there is no signal and nothing will help.

I wondered about the same thing. There have been times I forgot to put my phone antennae up and really couldn't tell the differnce, but I just thought it was my imagination.

I never noticed a difference between having the antennae up or down. If there was difference, it must have been minimal. My razr doesn't have an exterior antennae and it works great.

So do those external antennas on yor vehicle help quite a bit? I have always thought about trying one, but never knew anyone who had one.
