cell phones and gas stations
Has everyone heard of an Urban Legend? Well, this is kind of funny. Back in 1999, there were emails sent around that has thought to have been started in Indonesia. One of these legends was that using a cell phone around a gas pump could ignite a fire because of static. There is a website called Snopes.com, which is a website about Urban Legends. On this site has this cell phone warning, along with a few others. There have been several other reports of this over the years, and they still remain a legend. The interesting thing, phone manufacturers such as Nokia, do including this warning on their phones. This is what the operator’s instructions actually say: “switch off your phone when in any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere and obey all signs and instructions. Sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or fire resulting in bodily injury or even death."
