Default Could you live without a cell phone?

Many of us can do without what we have, but could you truly survive without a cell phone? How would it change your life?

I have extremely bad cell phone reception where I live, so not having a cell phone wouldn't bother me too much. The only reason I got one was because I was driving so much. Being in the middle of nowhere during the middle of a SD winter with no way to contact anyone is not something I want to do. However, I have driven a lot during the winter without a cell phone.

Do you recall the winterstorm of '97 where a woman in SD was stranded on a country road? Her car was completely blown over with snow, and rescuers eventually found her through her cell signal. So I'm thinking that these are a safety device just as much as entertainment.

That is the winter that prompted me to get a cell phone! I remember driving to town with 75 ft high snow banks on both sides of the road in some stops. Yuck! Spooky.

I was in college then and travelling across four states to get home. We still never got a cell phone. I think we just didn't even consider it as a necessity, even after a trip into the ditch a couple hundred miles from home.
