The Palm Treo 700p is the latest smartphone based on the Palm OS platform. It runs around $650 but can be found for less if bought with a service contract from Sprint or Verizon.

It runs much like the Tree 700w and utilizes 128 MB of Ram and bluetooth 1.2 connectivity. It also has a 1.3 megapixel camera and supports dialup netowrking. A software suite lets you edit MS Word and Excel documents as well as view ppt presentations and PDFs.

On the negative side, this does not have Wi-fi.

I don't know -- I'm assuming it will run through a variety of providors since the article I read talks about contracts other than Sprint or Verizon.

i work at a cell phone company & some people that work intimately with a certain project got free smart phones!
i was jealous.

I'd call that a definite perk for working with a cell phone. I'm thinking that finding a job as a product tester wouldn't be such a bad gig.
