It is sometimes referred to as “video game-induced epilepsy” or “television-induced epilepsy”. Photosensitive epilepsy is a rare condition in which intense visual impulses, such as light patterns, can trigger an epileptic seizure. This condition is part of a group of epilepsy types called “reflex” epilepsies, which are characterized by seizures provoked by stimuli in the environment. Female children between the ages of 9 and 15 years of age seem to experience this more often then boys of the same age and other age groups. This is a rare condition effecting about 5% of those with epilepsy. Some common triggers of seizures in this group are;
-watching television
-watching or playing video games
-strobe lights
-flashing lights or flickering lights
-sunlight reflecting off of water or objects or through windows
-fast moving light
