Default The new BABY network

Anyone heard of this? Apparently it has programming for infants during the day and educational programs for parents at night. Personally, it makes me sick. I can't imagine sitting my infant (if I had one) in front of the TV for an hour. It seems counterproductive to development.

Then again, I've not seen anything on the network yet, so I'm probably not giving it a fair shake. The idea just seems ludicrous.

First it was talking to your baby while it was in the womb; then it was playing classical music to your baby while it was in the womb; now it's a tv station devoted to infants. *shaking head* Myself, I think this is going to far.

Well my little one is 2 and I let her watch the PBS station because at 2 they are beginning to learn and talk and I believe at 2 that station would be okay but as an infant they know nothing more then color and sound of mommys voice... I was one of those playing music to the baby in the womb but the only thing it seemed to do for my daughter was teach her how to dance she came out wiggling her butt and now she runs around the house singing LALALALA she watches dora wihch i agree too because it teachers her spanish and in todays world with all the hispanics in america its important it is like a 2nd language in this country... I dont know if i feel this is wrong or right but if a parent wants to believe it helps then so be it.

The only good I can see out of this, is for the parents who purposely sit the child in front of the TV as a distracter. The child who has a TV babysitter. At least this way, if the child is forced to sit in front of a TV, maybe that parent will be a little sympathetic and flip it to the baby channel. I haven't heard much about the channel itself, but it has to be better than some of the cartoons kids watch, or adult type programs. I really do like the classical music for baby and it has been proven to help in calming the child among other things. I do believe a lot of baby crib toys and musicals play classical music now also.

yes my daughter sits down just to watch dora and freaks out when she sees dora or the wiggles in the store... its to the point that everything she has is either dora wiggles or elmo... It has helped with her speech and I like it... Although I would never purposly make her sit in front of the tv to watch it I try constructive things with her such as last week we baught tons of arts and crafts and glued macaroni on a poster board with markers and finger paints and all sorts of funky stuff we had a blast... I feel for childrens and specially toddlers learning they need to be HANDS ON so coloring and such is great way for my daughter.

As an educator, I have to agree with you Des. These kids do need some hands on projects like that. I know finding time for such activities really challenges some parents, but the kids remember stuff like that for a long time. (Remember the day we made a MACARONI poster?!)

I remember making macaroni posters and necklaces. I think its better to give them building blocks or leggos, something to get them to use both their hands and minds in a creative manner. I will defend Sesame Street though. I thought that was a great show for kids.
