Post Channel surfing for $299

Yep, there's a new sophisticated universal remote out there for a mere $299. The Thomson Acousti Research WiQ Universal Remote Control has a built-in Wi-Fi to retrieve broadcast, cable, and satellite program guides from the Web before displaying that information on its own color LCD. It also has a ticker that scrolls news, sports, and weather updates. I can remember when my dad was excited to not have to move from his comfy spot in his recliner. What would Archie Bunker have done with this gadget?

He-he -- It would be nice to have an all-in-one remote, but cheaper universal remotes exist. I would be afraid to have this one around a toddler. Can you imagine a $299 remote in the toilet?

I suppose a person could keep it in a special, vinyl case for such accidents. But what person with a toddler can afford a $300 remote?

My two year old nephew once "hid" his dad's remote. They still haven't found it and have since fallen back on one of those similar $20 remotes. It works great but it doesn't have a ticker. Then again, they don't have any cable or satellite tv, so they don't need the clicker. Remember the day when the majority of America got only three channels?

I have looked for a long time for a universal remote to control all my home audio/theatre components and have had no luck. I don't think I would spend that kind of money for a remote even if it would do the job for me!!

I don't use half the buttons on the regular remote. I don't know what I would do with all that other stuff. And the price is more expensive than all my textbooks for this coming semester!
