Big LCD, small camera
I don't know how this happens, but the Fujifilm FinePix V10 is a 5.1 Megapixel camera that measures 2.5X3.3x1 inches and weights 6.1 ounches, yet it has a 3 inch LCD. The control layout is awkward b/c of the big screen, and imae quality is rated as average.

Image quality is rated as "average." The toys that come with it are fun, though, but in my opinion, not worth the price for average pictures.

That's where you look at the pixel count. Anything at 5 mega pixels should be good enough. Canon has a nifty 10 megapixel camera out now too . . . for around $800.

Overall, I really think pixels DO matter. I mean other things do as well . . . but when I look for a camera, pixel count is the first thing I look at. And then a good zoom lens. And then the memory card. And then . . . well, I could go on for a while.

Ya, anything over 5mp will be pretty good....then look at the zoom/lens combo.

For us the zoom lens has made all the difference. I mean once we had the pixels we wanted, we discovered that we could take pictures of fawns far away and get a nice shot with a good zoom. We're big wildlife fanatics, so we often can't get close enough to our subjects for a good shot without a zoom.
