Dvd camcorders usually tend to record mediocre looking video and very little of it straight to optical video, but Sony's HDD camcorder is making progress. Even with the improvements, here are the negatives associated with the camcorder:
1. Moving subects suffer noticable artifacting
2. Poor touchscreen interface
3. Few manual controls

It sounds to me like there are a ton of neat new innovative things out there to try which is good because choice and comparrison is a good thing these days
