Default Photo Archiving

How do you safe your Digital Picture photographs?

Do you burn them to a CD or DVD?

Do you use an online photo hosting company?

External Hard Drives?

Your own computer?

Tell us about how you are saving your photos and how well it is working for you. Is it easy to access your pictures when you want to? How much did your archiving system cost or does it cost you on a regular basis?

I just keep my pictures on my computer. I know that does not sound like the safest way to keep them, but I really don't know what else to do with them.

I normally have them uploaded to a couple of places online and keep local copies on a second internal hard drive.

I've decided to have all of my future photos burned onto CD by a local camera/photo company. Then from there, I'll have them print the ones I want. I'm still a believer in photo albums so really want to have the actual prints. But my computer's hard drive is getting bogged down, so the CD should be a better way of archiving all of my photos.

My camera allows the use of floppy disks, so after taking the pictures, I will print out the ones I want to share/view immediately. Then I will print the thumbnails of the disk. MGI PhotoSuite 8.1 is one software that has thumbnail viewing when the disk is loaded. The thumbnails are small but fairly easy to read. After the thumbnails are printed, I store the sheet and the disk in a page protector and ring binder labeled with the year. Any additional comments about the particular page (so-and-so's wedding, etc.) I list at the top right hand corner, along with the date. That way I can find the sheet quickly. Some day, I'll get really creative and cover the ringbinders with a collage of the pictures included in it. That sounds like a good winter project.
