Default home printing vs. store processing

I've been wondering about this for a while, if home printing works as well as store processing. I've got some misgivings even though we have a stellar camera and printer, if the digital printoffs as home will last as long as the store-processed images. You have to wonder since digital cameras and printers have been around very long if the digital home-processed pics will last as long as store processed ones. I welcome your opinions.

As I mentioned in a post about photo paper, I have digital pictures that are over 5 years old and still look great. While I guess I don't know how they will look 20 years from now, I think that if you use good paper and keep the pictures in a scrapbook or photo album of some sort that they would be good for life.

I wonder what a Creative Memories consultant would say. I am guessing they would add that as long as you acid free paper around your pics, they should last a long time. Is good photo paper acid free?

When you factor in the cost of ink and paper, store printing seems so much more cost-effective.

I've thought so for a long time as well, except now that gas is $3 a gallon, I'm wondering about how cost efficient it is make a long trip into town to just have some pics processed.

I would have to agree that store printing costs are probably much cheaper, I guess some of the advantages of home printing are disadvantages to store printing and vice versa.

Good point, Desiree. Ever seen "Hope Floats"? I love when the photo processing owner tells Sandra Bullock's character, "Sometimes we get . . . interesting pictures. So we just put them in this file back here." You have to wonder . . .
