Recording movies?
Is a dvd recorder good for anything but recording movies off tv? You can't record movies you go rent because they don't copy right??

Yes, you can't recorder other dvds because of copyright laws. There are programs available that can bypass the encryption, but this is illegal.

I use Limewire where you are charged 25 cents per download and I think 499 for a movie thats the only way you can do it legally

Is Limeware the program? Do you download the film to that program then and watch it on your computer (if you don't have a DVD burner)? What kind of quality are the films?

Sometimes I don't understand the copy laws- if you wait long enough it comes out on tv and you can record it then- especially when you are just using them for your own veiwing......oh well that's the way it is I guess.

This is very true, but the networks pay huge amounts of money to be able to broadcast it. And they make up the little amount they lose by people pulling of the tv.

That makes sense I guess- I didn't know there were places you could pay a small fee and download movies- does that mean you can record them or keep them then?

Probably, although I've never been to any of the sites. I'll bet they are movies that have been out for a year or two, so the companies aren't as worried about making huge profits off them.
