An emulator is a piece of software that emulates a specific piece of hardware. For instance, the most popular emulator is called MAME. It's a program that emulates the hardware of all those great old 80's arcade video games. You can easily find "ROM" packages on the internet for everything from Pac Man to Galaga.

Its also use for older prgrams too not just games right?
