Post DVD Burner to hook up to your cameras

Sony has created a new DVD burner that can connect directly to cameras and camcorders. Experts are questioning if the price is worth the device though ($259.99). Apparently a person can hook this burner up and preview videos and photos through a 2-inch LCD. It also gives the ability to burn images directly from five of the most common memory-card formats. It also has a AFireWire port so you can transfer movies in real time from your camcorder straight to a DVD.)

However, this quoted price is far more expensive than your average external DVD burner. Gurus are also having fun making fun of the design: they're saying Sony created a large, square Oreo.

I'm questioning this product now as well, since there are digital video cameras that have burners on them already. I know that Sony does. I guess this is a nice add on if you can't afford a new camera or just don't want to buy one.

You mean for a digital camera, right? You know this won't work for a 35mm.

Ok - just checking. I figured you knew that. Sorry about the bone-headed response. So you're saying you wouldn't mind the external DVD burner for your still digital camera, right? It's something we could definitely use too -- I'd use it for our camera's small film feature as well.

The price isn't that far out of line is it? I guess maybe it is a little high but if it does a good job and is good high quality I think it is at least somewhat reasonable.

I suppose what you need to do is price it against a camera that does the same thing and ask yourself if the camera is worth the upgrade or if you should just settle for the burner.
