Question Green tint on recorded DVDs

I know you get what you pay for, but none the less, I purchased a DVD recorder from Wal-Mart a year or so ago for really cheap. I got it all hooked up and when I would record movies off of tv, the recorded movie was really bad visual quality- it had a greenish hue over the whole picture. Was this because of the quality of the machine? Would a higher dollar, brand name machine do better?

Could you tell if it was a returned package and then someone put it back on the shelf again to resell? We have had problems with other things that way. I am trying to discipline myself to look at a package before I buyit to see if it has been opened or not. It could be just the particular machine and not the brand after all.

Boy I couldn't tell you how the package looked- usually I watch that pretty carefully. I got rid of the recorder and can't even tell you the brand name...it was one I had never heard of before I know that.

It could be some kind of conversion problem.

All sorts of possibilities I guess....I think I will just do some research and get a better one someday.
