Default Directors' cut etc.

In my opinion the best feature that comes with DVDs is the directors' cut or other special voice over cuts. I buy a movie to watch it, but once I have seen it, I don't usually want to watch it over and over again, unless it really makes me laugh. So then I watch the director's cut. A person learns to appreciate the real work behind the making of a film when he watches these cuts.

I've also learned, though, that if I'm going to watch one of these cuts, I need to watch the cut of a movie I have seen lots. That way I don't find myself caught up in the movie instead of the director's comments.

That does make sense to me. I notice there are times on different television stations they will have specials on the making of certain movies but I don't ever watch them if I haven't seen the movie. I agree that it's not good for me to watch that special unless I have actually watch the movie first.

Ultimately this cut just makes me appreciate the film even more. The other extras on a DVD can do this as well. For example, we have a DVD of American Graffiti (if you haven't seen it, watch it.) There's a documentary about an hour long that explains the unique process in filming this movie. They did the entire thing at night, and the whole cast was a bunch of teenagers. The documentary really made me appreciate and love the movie even more.

I only buy the movies that I know I could watch over and over again.

It is kind of nice to see how they made a film and different not so well known aspects of the location, actors, etc----when you have time to sit down and watch the director's cut that is!!
