How to live without a DVR
When I was a child, I would be devastated that I had missed my favorite show after school because our bus driver thought it would be fun to drive his route backwards instead of the right way.
Now as my children want to watch their favorite show, the rules have changed. They get to tape their favorite show and can only tape one until they watch it.
We can delete after they have watched it and then get to choose another one.
I honestly don't see how much more we can get as being technology advanced: having robots as children? don't laugh, it may happen

I remember those days. There was 1 family TV that my siblings and I got to fight over. My parents had one in their room, so they were comfortably immune, (not that they would have had any problem commandeering the television, if one parent wanted to watch one thing and the other wanted to watch something else). Since I had 2 older brothers and one younger sister, you can just imagine imagine the battles. The good news is the advent of the the webcast. I don't own a dvr, but now stations are offering missed episodes that you can watch on your PC. Recently, I missed an episode of Desperate Housewives and got to watch it on a webcast. I believe you could watch up to 3 missed episodes. Kudos to the inventor of the webcast, or in today's parlance, much props.

Now everyone can watch what they want when they want to so the family unity is going to be cut back a little more because of technology.

I agree with Trinity when we had DVR we woudl snuggle up and watch way more movies because we both worked we were able to record and come home and rewind if we wanted.

I also agree that it brings the family together. Its almost like people can count on when they are going to be together. The favorite shows are recorded and there is nothing lost.
I have a dual tuner, so I can record two shows at one time or record on the "second" TV and watch anything I want on the "first" one. Also if I don't want to watch what is on the "first" tv I can just go watch the "second" tv without interupting anything or bothering people watching the "first" tv.
It's sure is nice to have, but I hate when I hit the "Fast Forward" button and all of a sudden there is a box that says "Live TV" on the screen. I freak out and have to record the rest just to miss the commercials LOL

Hello, I've got a spare 250 gb external hard-drive and wondered if anyone knew of a dvd recorder with a 2.0 usb port, but -without- an internal hard-drive. I figured I could just use my external one and cut down loads on cost. If not, a device that lets you record tv onto an external hard-drive, but without the dvd recorder. Do either of these exist?
Cheers, Ben.

Just as the age of DVD transformed the way that we view and watch media, it is increasingly becoming under fire from new technological advances in media streaming. Whereas in the past you would hold a video or DVD now, more and more purchases are done for data as opposed to actual product.
