DVR on your PC?
Did you know that any computer with the right hardware has the capabilities of becoming a DVR? A couple of different versions of necessary software exists to offer such capabilities: Beyond TV 4.2 and SageTV Media Center 5.0

Your PC needs to have a TV-tuner card and at least 15 GB (for Beyond TV) or 20 GB (for Sage) of hard-drive space for recording programs.

Software comparison:
Apparently both sets of software require approximately 10 minutes for setting up the TV tuner, selecting the cable provider, and choosing folders for saved videos. Both also allow the user to easily watch, record, pause, and rewind live TV via bright and clear full-screen windows.
Pretty cool, eh?

Software Contrasts:
The only real difference between the two programs are in the details--thingslike the number of mouse clicks necessary. There is a slightly different cost between the two, with Beyond TV running around $70 and Sage running around $80.
I don't know about you, but I never knew that such a device even existed.

I have a friend who always watches TV over her computer, and I'm guessing she'd get a kick out of this device.

With my friend, I believe she doesn't pay for cable either. Don't ask me how she's able to watch TV through her computer without having cable, but she does.

Des -- she's in Nashville (TN) too . . . so maybe it's something you could do. Maybe it's just a TN thing . . . probably not.
