Welp that would make the decision to be an early adopter a little easier!

Indeed. Although I will probably still wait out the fight. Eventually 1 format will prevail.

Buying one of these is like buying a DIVX player. Hell, that's how I sold so many of them. When people would ask me "What if the format fails?"...i would answer "well then you still have a regular DVD player." One is bound to fail eventually.

Make me one that also does SACD and DVD-Audio and you'll have my money.

There was another company that said they were going to make one but they ended up canning it. I forget who was going to make it, Samsung maybe.
Hopefully this isn't more vaporware.

Yea it was Samsung but I think they backed out of it.
It appears that the dual player idea might be a way for combining the two technologies by all parties involved to make sure HD optical adoption isn't stalled for too long. Consider that in the past month Toshiba has been experimenting with Blu-ray technology and Sony is going into the optical drive business with NEC. HD-dvd/BR could go the same way recordable dvd burners went. Good for consumers because in the end you can buy and play movies from either format.

Samsung backed out because of legal/licensing issues with the 2 camps. We discussed it here. I wonder what LG has done to fix that?

This is good news, but I'm still going to wait at least a year before I start investing in this format
