Default Head-to-Head Review: NEC and Samsung PC Drives

A summary:

* Samsungs Blu ray burner has, due to its two lenses, clearly fewer problems to read CDs and DVDs than NEC with its combination lens.

* Fears that the BD drive assembly would become too loud or too warm were proven incorrect.

* HD-DVD drive assembly cannot keep up with the latest state of development technically with the Blu ray burner.

* At retail, the NEC HD-DVD reader will cost $475 and the Samsung Blu-Ray burner will cost $500. The lower cost to produce the HD-DVD reader will only be seen at the manufacturers level.

* The NEC drive will be used in the Toshiba HD-DVD players.

* Blank media (R and RE) is initially going to costs about twice as much for Blu-Ray as it does for HD-DVD
