I was wondering about some consumer HD camers that are available now. Best Buy sells one by Sony for example and Ultimate Electronics carries at least one model and so forth.
I have never seen HD tape available at these stores though. Which I find strange if they sell an HD camcorder. Since it must be recorded onto HD tape to get the full HD quality correct?
I found these cameras while doing a search. The Canon seems interesting, but again how it actually gets the HD image is confusing. Since it seems to use only SD miniDV tape. Or does it also use HD tape as well?

Meanwhile this JVC model which I have seen in stores before. Claims to be able to record the HD image to SD tape...and somehow get the full original HD image back in editing..or whatever. I find that hard to believe. Since once you loose quality or edit it in some way(say edit a digital photo..toy with the brightness and color etc). You can't get the 'original' quality back via editing. You must go back to the original source that was left intact
