Where can I find an HD-DVD player and some movies?
my dad really wants a HD-DVD player, im willing to spend between $1,000 -$2,000 for a unit and some movies along with it. Does anyone know where i can find a unit and where the movies are sold, my best buy has no clue what im talking about , or do i just hold and buy him a Blu Ray Player

1K-2K? Order one from Crutchfield, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, or Amazon for $499. Target and Amazon seem to have the lowest prices for the movies.

Option two is the right one in my opinion. Does he like James Bond movies? He won't get them on HD DVD.

I love sci-fi too but, even though there'll be some sci-fi movies on the first titles by Universal (Serenity, Doom, Riddick), I'd rather wait for Alien/Aliens (Fox supports only Blu-ray). 2001 and Blade Runner belong to Warner, so they'll be released on both formats. Terminator and Terminator 2 are already announced for Blu-ray.
No TV shows have been announced yet. The Sopranos are rumored for the fall (and HBO supports both formats).

Don't expect them to be released on Blu-Ray either... at least not for a long time. The market for Midnite Movies is small on DVD, can you imagine how small it'll be on a niche format like Blu-Ray? Sony wouldn't waste their time releasing those anytime soon. I'm not even sure if they're even releasing anymore on DVD since taking over MGM.

Don't expect to see any of the great MGM Midnite Movies 1950s-60s schlocky sci-fi b-grade drive in flicks without Blu Ray...

My local Best Buys have both the players and movies in stock. I would check there if you go the B&M route.
