Anyone hesitant to buy new titles on SD-DVD?
Just saw the titles for Blu-ray and the pricing. It's not that far off from DVD and honestly, it's going to be very difficult buying new DVD's when I know that the Blu-ray version isn't that much more. Even though I'm not going to be one of the immediate adopters, it still doesn't make sense to me (knowing that one format will win) to waste money on the DVD version when the HD version is just a couple of dollars more.
Anyone else feeling this?

I haven't been to hesitant in buying DVD's. I pretty much have the mind set that the Next Gen. players be it HD or BR will both have backwards compatibility and more than anything I refuse to buy one or the other until there is one standard for next generation home movie. I won't be buying BR or HD DVD's until we have one standard or dual players so I will still be purchasing SD DVD's until then.

The real question might be: how long are we going to have to wait to afford a next gen player? I'm not sure I'm willing to wait on all those movies that long.

You must be watching different movies than me. There's nothing that I've seen recently that I'd be dying to have. Hell, this year is probably the dryest I've ever had thus far.

I was struggling with it a bit, but then I decided to just keep buying DVDs.
I figure some of the titles won't even be available on HD for years. Others I may not even want to upgrade. Some will probably have features I want that are not ported to HD (for example, apparently the Jarhead 2 disc DVD is already OOP and I doubt they'll release the same set in HD).
Then there is the PQ comparison/cost benefit analysis. I'll have to see it on my equipment to judge how much better it really is vs. the cost of the upgrade. I'll be comparing the HD to an upscaled DVD version for this comparison (and I do expect/hope for HD to be a marked improvement).
Finally, by being content with DVD for a while the HD prices will drop even further. Hopefully to the price point of current DVDs. Then I'll be more likely to upgrade more and more titles and by then I'll buy all new titles in HD. The majority of upgrading will occur when I find HD discs below $10 at W*Mart.
Oh yea, and I don't think I'll be buying either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray until one of them dies a humiliating death.

I am not hesitant in the least because I am in the lower income bracket and won't be able to afford an HDTV and HD-DVD/BluRay Player for quite some time.

Won't bother me.
I'm still buying dvds.
I'll replace the odd title when it becomes availiable, but that's way off for me, so I'm still getting dvds.

Hehehe, welp here's to hoping BR wins!
I honestly mean that. I just find it hard to buy the unknown right this moment. Hopefully by year end we will have a clearer winner and I can start adopting the next gen. Until then though I'll buy the movies I want on SD and enjoy them in all there glory.
Good question though and something to ponder.....

I pick up most DVDs when they are either used or discounted. It is a rare title that I pick up on release day anymore. So I end up paying $6-10 for them.
At those prices, I would still pick up the DVD and wait for one of the HD formats to die. Once that happens and prices on HD discs fall to around $15 or less I'll basically break even. For example $7 for Cinderella Man DVD (used) then pick up the HD version when it hits $15. Total=$21 (max) which is about the same as buying it right off the bat when it comes out in HD. I would buy different titles at different price points, of course, depending on how much I like it.
This gives me the advantage of waiting for cheaper, better players and content and avoiding the risk of buying into a to-be-extinct format.
