Default Song

A song is a relatively short musical composition for the human voice (commonly accompanied by other musical instruments), which features words (lyrics). It is typically for a solo singer, though may also be a duet, trio, or for more voices (works with more than one voice to a part, however, are considered choral). The words of songs are typically of a poetic, rhyming nature, although they may be religious verses or free prose. Songs can be broadly divided into many different forms, depending on the criteria used. One division is between "art songs", "popular music songs", and "folk songs". Other common methods of classification are by purpose (sacred vs secular), by style (dance, ballad, Lieder, etc.) or by time of origin (Renaissance, Contemporary, etc).

It does not have to have words to be a song, take for example yoddiling.

I guess I've never thought of yodeling as a song. But then I suppose that the music of the monks would also be songs, not just chanting. There are music peices without words, such as piono solo's that are also songs though. I like most any kind of song, except yodeling. I really don't care for that. Otherwise, I can listen to about anything. I do have an iPod that I carry around with me a lot. When I'm at home I always have the radio on to some music station.

Cool Songs

I really don't think I would much like yoddleing----chants and such are done with the voice and should be considered song as the priests latin message sung----definately was not part of criteria to get a church.
I most often think of words when I think of songs. I write lyrics for songs but without thinking I call it writing songs----but they have no passage for the voice to follow as of yet---although there is somewhat a a "song" in my head when I write.

Smile A magical about song writing;

There's something magical about songwriting. A song that expresses what you feel is a good song. A song that expresses your thoughts and feelings in a way that reaches other people, helps them feel something deeper or understand something better - that's a really good song! Good songwriters use song craft to give their songs emotional impact and make them memorable.
