Buying a used ultra ultra portable - Transmeta?
I am looking into getting an ultra portable. And I have the following in mind:
1. It is not my main laptop. I have a kick ass Asus W3A and that's enough for the powerful stuff. I need something very small that I can carry without even feeling it.
2. I thinking about traveling for a while. Going backpacking, so that's why I need it, because I want a computer with me
3. I need it for basic office stuff, internet, email, skype and some basic software developing (eclipse, compiling, maybe some linux). I can't really afford some kick ass ultra portable, so I will cut down on perfromance and maybe punch in tons of RAM as time goes by to compensate.
4. Graphics: only basic 2d, not really using any 3d
5. I need it to be cheap and I think I will go on something used or refurbished.
While looking around I bumped into the Trasnmeta laptops, especially the Fujitsu series. The price seems right, there are a bit slow at under 1GHz. But what scares me is that Transmeta is known to have shitty performace. The question is how bad is it?
Any ideas? recommendations?
