Question Beta?

Does anyone know what a Beta is? Im guessing that it's referring to a trial version of a program still being tweaked, like Vista or Media Player 11, but I am looking for a solid answer instead of a guess.

It can be said to as, a preliminary or testing stage of a software or hardware product; "a beta version"; "beta software"

This makes sense. So basically it's the trial version for people to test before the real one comes out on the market.

Beta is releasing a preview to a piece of software or web application that's still being developed. Enjoy the thrill of being among the first to use a new bit of software orelse wait until the software is "out of" beta.
