The other configuration would be an ordinary wired router (with a serial port for the analogue modem) plus a separate wireless access point. But I am not sure what products to pick for this – too much to choose from! – and it may not in fact save money.

I'd like to be able to unload or turn off this profile, so that when only one of us is using the connection, we can maximize it.
Is something like this possible?

I bought a netgear FS 605 to join 3 macs together and allow each to use the cable modem internet connection.
it turns out that I may ALSO need a router...
DO I?
