Default Asking for trouble and other issues

Greetings all,

Having recently come over from the dark side I have a few issues I'd dearly like to solve regarding my iMac.

I recently bought a 2nd hand iMac G4 which has OS X10.3.9 installed but I noticed too late that the guy I got it from had given me a disk with 10.2.7 on it. In an email he claims it is the original disk. Can that be right? Can you go from Jaguar to Panther and not have a disk? I smell a rat. I also read on Wikipedia that 10.2.7 was never officially released, which sounds a bit dodgy.

Also, I'd like to upgrade to Tiger 10.4.3 but I've read a few disturbing things on the forum about post upgrade problems. The computer works fine right now so am I risking it? On the other hand if my system crashes and I am without the 10.3.9 disk I am in trouble, am I not? Better to have Tiger and the disk if anything goes wrong, right?

As an afterthought, just like to say that the Mac computing experience is beautiful and so am happy to be here.

Many thanks for any help in advance.
