Default (Open)Darwin / FW HDD

Hopefully some of you gurus can clarify a few things for me. I'm interested in playing around with Darwin and/or OpenDarwin (much difference?) a bit and I have a few more questions that the FAQs on opendarwin.org and Apple's Darwin resources didn't cover:

1) I want to install this to a FW HDD I have. If I repartition the drive and install Darwin to one of those partitions, I should be able to boot to it instead of OS X; in essence a dual-boot scenario. T/F?

2) Darwin requires a separate Window Manager that's not included. T/F?

3) Can a "stock" installation of Darwin provide basic functionality (web surfing, email, etc)?
