Apple Launches New Xserve
Apple unveiled Aug. 7 its new Intel-based Xserve server, which CEO Steve Jobs said is five times faster than the previous generation of Xserves.
The new Xserve has a smaller processor, requires less cooling time due to better power efficiency, redundant power supplies and up to 2 terabytes of storage.
The Xserve is priced to start at $3,000, and Apple will begin shipping it by October.
The standard configuration for the new Xserve is 1GB of RAM, an 80GB drive and dual-core 2.66GHz chips.
Jobs made the announcement at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco.
