I am a long time Mac user, so I am pretty up to speed on the Mac capabilities.
But I am looking to update my iMac G3 Graphite 600 MHz sometime this year. It has been a great computer, but since upgrading to 10.4.8, it has really started showing its age.
The concerns that I am weighing over are:
1) I am an EE in the auto industry, so I use PC's every day at work.
2) I really don't have a need for expandability for items that can't be connected via USB / FireWire (besides RAM and HD).
3) I'm not into gaming, so graphic cards don't mean much to me.
4) I support most of my family's Mac's and PC's from 100+ miles away.
5) I really don't need a laptop, as my work provides me with a PC laptop. (I currently use an external 2.5" HD for troubleshooting when I go places.
6) My wife hates Mac and thinks that PC's are cheaper and more compatible and an all-around better machine.
7) I know that the new Intel Mac's can use Parallels software to run Win apps, but I don't have any experience using this method. Is it any good? Do most apps / drivers work with it?
8) Apple will always have a better computer coming out in the next 2-3 months... every 2-3 months.
9) What is Jobs going to unveil at this year's Mac Expo? Will there be an Intel 3 Core Quad anytime soon?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Big questions are:
Do I get a laptop or desktop?
Do I get it sooner or later (and how much later)?
Thanks,
Rayday
