Red face Dummy in front of screen

help!!!!!! I can't tell you if all I am reading is helping me to understand better or confusing the things I do know with clutter. I use all sorts of tecnology everyday----but never think how they work or why---and unfortunately because of that i don't alway make the best purchase choices----

same with a car----I drive--check the water---cjeck the oil----and make sure the tires are not flat---after that--it is a wing and a prayer.

Seroiusly, some of the best books available to help a person understand the various facets of technology today are the "*blank* for Dummy" or "Idiot's guide to . . . " books.

I have used the Dummy books many times. Even though I know some of the technical terms, it's still nice to read a book that puts things in everyday language. They don't assume you know much about what is going on, so they explain everything -- even the things that are considered "simple."

The only Dummie book I have bought was Spanish for Dummies. Sad to say, I have never really gotten past page five or so. I'm sure it's a good book. I have seen several others that I condsidered buying. Sometimes I wonder though if what is written in those books is not the same thing in all the other refrence books, the ones that I don't understand. I don't want to waste my money if that is the case. Nice to see that they are available though if I needed one.

I have never read any of the dummy books but I know a lot of people really like them. I like just diving in and learning on the way!

I've heard the Geek Squad can be helpful as well. If you can find a nice local "geek" that won't laugh too hard at your terminology, you can get a lot more out of your system as well.

I also have never read any dummy books. I just kind of start using it and figure it out as I go. I took a computer class when I was in high school, which was only a few years ago. Other than that I just kind of go with the flow and do trial and error method. I really dont to anything too complicated with the technology anyway. Probably a reason for that though. What I do do I can usually feel my way around though.
