dell 1505
hello, my first post.
here is the scenario.
I purchased an e1505 dell notebook 2 months ago, works amazing, no complaints. I purchased another one a week ago...
both have the 1390 mini card wireless adaptor, both notebooks use the same driver and configuration, however the newer laptop is incrediabely slower on the internet.
both are using the same wireless networks, getting different ips and mac address, and both show the same signal and speed/conectivity.
i'm all out of troubleshooting ideas!

Quite often I find when attaching new Windows XP computers to the net that they immediately start downloading windows updates in the background and the internet seem slow for a start. You could check by doing a manual windows update.
Is the second computer further away from the AP than the first? Or in a noisy environment? Some adaptors seem to hold onto the 54mbps speed even when they would be getting better performance at a lower bit rate.
It could also be a virus, was there a firewall turned on when it was first connected to the net?

It might be the windows update, only it doesn't update....extremely slow.
The laptops are side by side, and they get the same signal strenght, and actually they both show 11mbps for speed...
It can't be a virus because it is new, and McAfee antivirus is installed and shows no virus. It also has a firewall and yes it was on when the internet first connected...
I tried disabling the firewall and even went to uninstall McAfee but it didn't help..
I've done a dell system restore many times...

Have you been able to try it on another wireless network? What type of wireless adapter was included with the notebook?

I too have a Dell Inspiron 1505 with Intel 3945 wireless and I had the same problem I fixed it by going to System / Device Manager / Network Adapters / Intel(R) Pro etc. / double clicking to get new window, then Power Management tab, and unchecking the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
I don't know why this worked, but it did.

If it's the same anywhere I'd suggest doing a warranty claim on it. Especially given the fact you have a perfectly working, identical model.
