I wanted to do a setup where I creat a WEP network having one or 2 users and I use my wireless laptop to sniff and crack the WEP. I just had a few questions. I downloaded the backtrack cd from remote-exploit. Are there any tutorials I can get to be able to do this? My idea is to be able to show that WEP is weak and WPA and 802.1x is a much better solution. Could you please give me a push in the right direction for this. Also if I have such a small setup, how can I have more date being sent to simulate a larger network with more data being passed so the WEP cracking can be faster?

Use a program like void11 to deauthenticate a wireless client on the network, then aireplay to replay packets it receives once the client tries to reauthenticate. You need two wireless cards for this to work properly so you can deauth while aireplay is sniffing for packets. If you get it going you can generate a large amount of traffic in a fairly short space of time even if the wireless network is only seeing very light use.

When you use tools like Void11, it requires special hardware for it to work right? Have you guys used the tools on the auditor/backtrack cd's? I have a Centrino, built in Intel Pro wireless bg2200 wireless card and was wondering if I could use this with the tools, dont really want to purchase another card for this.

Yeah, I am using backtrack and it works, and I can use Kismet in monitor mode and tried to do some sniffing, but from what I was seeing in other forums the ipw2200 card does not support packet Injection and I wanted to try this out to generate IV's so I can just demonstrate WEP cracking, the thing is I also havent really used Linux before and havent got a clue on how to work the other tools. This is what happens when you use Windows your whole life.

I have the same card in my laptop, it works fine with the new version of auditor (i think). Just make sure you get the right version, apparently there's one version that works, one that doesn't. I say i think it works because I haven't actually cracked any WEP with mine yet, sniffed a few packets, but that's about it
