No way to tell whether or not I'm connected (?)
I am new to wireless. I have a Belkin router connected to my desktop and a laptop with wireless card. Both run WinXP Sp2. On my laptop, XP shows a wireless network connection icon on the taskbar (at bottom)however, my desktop will not show the same icon. Instead, it shows what looks to me like a regular LAN icon (2 PCs).
In addition, when I look in Network Connections I do not have a means of viewing available networks.
I am beginning to wonder whether or not my desktop and laptop are even making a wireless connection.
My latop's wireless connection shows that there are two available wireless networks within range. One of them secured (my neighbor), and the other one unsecured, with the name of linksys.
Can someone help me understand why my Belkin router won't show the wireless icon? And can anyone give me some insight about whether or not my desktop PC and laptop are connected? How can I know?
Any constructive responses would be most appreciated.
