Long Range 802.11b/g Card + WPA Recommendations?
Hello all,
I'm looking for a recommendation on a 802.11b/g card that has an external antenna jack (preferably MMCX since I already have the pigtail for it). I'm helping a friend connect a laptop to another building across the street. The network we're connecting to (which neither of us control) is secured with WPA-PSK. The key has been given to us by the network administrator.
I have tried an Orinoco Gold (classic) card with the Agere drivers that supposedly support WPA. I have also tried a Senao 2511CD card that is also supposed to support WPA. Neither of these cards work. Both of them attempt to connect to the network, but the connection eventually times out.
The only clue I have is that before the tech support guy at Senao got downright belligerent (at the thought HIS card could be the problem) he seemed surprised that the network was using a 64-byte key.
I'm guessing that the chipset just doesn't support a key that long. I have tried connecting to the network with a rather cheap belkin 802.11g card and it works perfectly fine; but it doesn't have an external antenna jack nor the range to make the connection across the street.
So, after this novel -- any recommendations?
