Extending wireless with additional router?
Hi everyone got a bit of a problem. I currently have BT broadband with the wireless voyager 2091 router, the router is then directly connected to another router which is the Pre-N Belkin. These are situated upstairs in the house.
The Belkin does all the wireless networking round the house and the 2091 really just acts as the modem. I then bought another BT voyager, this time it was the 2100 one. This one comes with 4 Ethernet ports instead of the 1 with the 2091.
What i want to do if possible is too have 2100 located downstairs so it acts as an repeater for the BT router upstairs. As the range and speed of the Pre-N Belkin is excellent, i thought to leave it as it is. So to just extend the wireless of the BT router upstairs to the downstairs one.
This will help me a lot when fixing pc's as I don’t have to take the pc's upstairs to wire connect them can just to them from downstairs which has much bigger space.
Both BT voyagers have the option for repeating and currently i have entered the MAC address of the downstairs one onto the configuration of the upstairs one, both are using channel 9 and the downstairs one has DHCP disabled. Its still not working and when connecting to the downstairs router, the internet is not available!! So is must mean its not working properly
Anyone know where Im going wrong? Is this actually possible?
Any help will much appreciated
Thanking you in advance
