Belkin N1 error connecting to DSL modem

It currently has a Belkin Pre-N router attached to it working flawlessly. I just brought a Belkin N1 router and when I try to set it up I am unable to get it to connect successfully to the DSL modem. Everything else seems fine. Any suggestions?
