Default no internet

Hi I seemed to have messed my connection up.
I was having a bit of trouble when playing gaming, was getting connection problems.
So I decided to fiddle with settings.
I firstly went into bios settings and disabled the lan connection( I done this because I thought that because i was using broadband it didnt need to be enabled)
Then I read on a site about refreshing the internet browser in (add remove programmes in control panel) unfortunetly I clicked on it and seemed to delete it ?

I then contacted ntl broadband, they ran me through the steps, disconnecting the modem, turn computer off, I had to type things via "run".

He then said that I had a problem my end with the computer.
I did notice the ip address wasnt the same as it was.

Lastely I have also noticed that in local area connection it was (local area connection 2) and now it is (local area connection 3)

also when you start the computer this message comes up "MDATA.DAT file not found.

I dont know what I have done but dont know how to fix it ?????

Please help.

Perhaps what you're ISP had you do was run commands that installed new LAN connections. All you have to do is delete them or disable them. Also, what does you IP address look like? (Just the first two numbers please ie: 192.168.X.X Wouldnt want to hack you!) Also, with that weird file, try to find out what program needs it. I found this that you should try to get rid of the error.

it seems that the mdata.dat file will be connected to the mouse, I bought a mouse it wasnt suitable,so i took it back to the shop, installed another mouse and so on, so i think that will be the problem.

The connection problem, can you explain step by step for me, Im a little dim when it comes to this problem.

I will get the first numbers of ip and post them back. sorry i cant do this myself as i am offshore, and not home till sunday. I need to explain to my partner over the phone, so it will have to be simple for the both of us.
Thanks

Well, something is wrong with the configuration or the NIC. Let's see this:

For 98 or ME, Start, Run, COMMAND to open a DOS window:
--- or ---
For 2K or XP, Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

It appears that something is amiss with the NIC, the physical address should not be FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF.

At this point, I'd suggest uninstalling the NIC in Device Manager, and updating the NIC drivers to the latest version. We need to fix that MAC address before you'll get onto the network at all.

Your physical address should definitely not be FF-FF-FF-FF. You could aslo ping 127.0.0.1 and that would test your NIC card for it's ability to send and recieve. Good luck!

Network Interface Card, aka your Ethernet card.
