LAN connectivity problem in XP
Hi I have basically two computers networked together thropugh my d-link di-624+ wireless router, everything is fine but PC2 cannot see PC1 although PC1 can see PC2 and browse files ok. There both on the same workgroup and everything. Sometimes on PC2 you can see PC1 in Microsoft Windows Networks but it says "Access is denied please contact administrator... blah blah!!"
How come i dont have a problem with PC1 viewing or accessing PC2 files etc but it dont work the other way around!!
They both have same version of XP on
All help appreciated

You'll have problems when trying to connect to a shared folder on XP Pro from XP home. The XP home machine would be able to see the Pro folder if Home is running the Remote Desktop client. Do you have Simple File Sharing enabled on the Pro machine? Read: lack of security. I had to use the IP address to get to my Pro machine, but I think NetBios over TCPIP was disabled. Here's a link that claims you don't need to enable Simple Sharing:

Hi sorry for delay in answering but there both XP Pro, both have network cards wired to the router. PC1 can see PC2 and access files but PC2 can see PC1 but can't gain access to shared out drives on PC1 etc.. it says "Access denied, see administrastor for permissions" etc.. Sorry if I made it seem complicated before.
Ill try the guest account but from what I can gather is this just a XP Home edition problem?

For our purposes what you need to do is:
Make sure the Workgroup Name is the same for both PC's
Make sure the User Name and password is the same for both PC's and DIFFERENT from the workgroup name
Make sure the Windows Firewall is disabled
Make sure there is something to share on each

Since he still has not told us what flavor of XP he is running. There is NO point in anyone posting anything else. We can speculate all we want, But all he says unless I'm blind is:

Ok Classicsoftware, thanks ill take on board what you said but this still does'nt exlain why I can access PC2 with PC1.
I log on both PC's using the same username and passwords, but should this matter anyway?????, The accounts I log into are also administrator accounts.
The workgroup is the same on both PC's i.e. WORKGROUP
Windows firewall is off
The drives are shared, and by default in XP there are shared folders already setup like "shared documents" etc
Simple file sharing is enabled, although I dont think you need this enabled to see other computers on your network!!
mmm!!

See the main batch which i want to run is the one named "start.bat" now to automatically start it every one minute i did this other batch the one named "start.bat". When i click (double click) "start.bat" it executes successfully.
Now I did the last batch "query.bat" just to see the status of the batch files that were running but it said the test.bat "could not start". I also checked for the log.txt to proof that yes "start.bat did actually execute "test.bat" because the test.bat was supposed to produce a log.txt anyway.. unfortunatly i could not locate a "log.txt" file.
But if i go and just manuall run the "test.bat" it will execute correctly also it will produce a log.txt file. I dont want to do it manually therefore i made the "start.bat to do it for me every one minute or 5 minutes depending.
do you get what i'm trying to say ?
Anyway the cmd prompt is being disablled by our network administrator therefore i put these into batch files,.
