LAN problem!
I started up my pc at my business this morning. And I'm having a problem connecting to the internet. When I go to connect to "Local Area Connection 1" it goes to "receiving network address" (I think), and then it goes to "Limited or no connectivity". I tried repairing the connection but it only goes to "Renewing IP address" and freezes. I desperately need help, this computer has to connect for my business. I'm in a bind. Please help!

Is this wired or wireless? Please provide a whole lot more information. How do you connect to the internet? Are other PC's able to get on? Have you restarted the router or modem?

It is wired. I restarted the modem. The home computer is a MAC. The other computer is a MAC. This is the only pc on the network. I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you say, "how do you connect to the internet". Thanks so much for the reply!

right click your My Network Places, click Properties. Right click your Local Area Connection and click Repair. If it fails, right click the same icon and click Status. What does it say, is it grayed out?
Do you have a wirelss Network card in the PC as well as a wired Network card? I have only seen the limited or no connectivity in relation to a wireless card. Wired usually works or doesn't. Check the cable going from the modem to your PC. On the back of the PC are there green lights lit up where the network card is? Have you reseated all the cables i.e. unplugging them and plugging them back in?

My wireless pc at home did this, I had to reinstall its network card driver. Do you think this is what needs to be done here? I did not set this one up, so I'm not even sure if wired connections have a driver to be installed.

You connect to the web through a USB port? Ok, do you have any other USB devices? Are they working? Can you unplug them and try again. right click My Computer, click Properties, Click Device Manager, do you see anything with an exclamation point or a red X?

It did fail, and no, the status was not grayed out. It was highlighted in black actually.

Still unsure of what you mean. From the back of your computer you have a cord going from a USB port or a NIC?
How about trying Start/Run hit enter and then type Ipconfig. What is the information you have there?

Well, I finally decided to contact Dell yesterday, after a bunch of differents "tests", they said it was a bad router. The router isn't sending an ip address to this pc. So, I have another router and I'm going to switch them out. I'll let you know what happens. Does this make sense to y'all?
