Wink Problems with net at college

ok, now I'm at college (GMU), but I'm having problems with connecting to the internet. It only seems to repond half the time and will go down for hours at a time. Apparently it's supposed to have some sort of complex system that makes you have to log on to access the net, and also something that won't let you connect unless you have Symantec antivirus or some nonsense. I have encountered neither of these (I use AVG and Zonealarm), which I think is a little odd. It makes it impossible to download anything, and it causes a lot of stress when the net goes down when I need it for homework. The stupid resident techs refuse to help because we don't have a phone hooked up in our room (we use our cells), and I was hoping somone could help. I am acquainted with basic LANing and kniw my basics pretty well, but this confuses me.

Hello Friend,
First you will need to have file and print sharing set up on all computers that will access the network.Next you will need to share any files/folders you want to share. Typicaly any folder you share will allow access to any file or folder within that folder.Do you have a firewall set up on any of these machines? If so, which one? Having a firewall on a machine will prevent other machines from accessing it. You will need to grant permissions for each machine into the others.

Thanks,
James
