Wow, this game is so freaky. I just downloaded the demo version on a whim- the atmosphere is just so creepy and the visual distortions are amazing.

Anyone else play this? Would you recommend the full version? If so, what kind of replay value does it have?

I can't say I've played the entire game, but it is a freakin' awesome one! I've played it on a really sweet system and, for shooters, there is really nothing to match it! I would recommend the full version!

Yeah, I'm surprised at how close the controls are to Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. The movement's almost identical, and the weapons controls are a little like Halo.

FEAR is absolutely awesome. I highly recommend the full version. I was most impressed by the AI system, which seems, in many ways, to be even better than Oblivion's.

As for replay value, I couldn't say - I'm the type of guy who can play just about any game over and over and over...

But definitely, get the full version. It's great.

I played it for about 20 minutes on my Celery (more of a joke on my friend than anything), and even at the worst graphics/physics, no AA, no AF, etc, etc and only getting 15-30fps, it was still really good and pretty scarry! I've always found I like Monolith games- they really put hard work into them. If you guys like this game, try out the older (but still good!) No One Lives Forever: The Operative and No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.s way. Froogle NOLF and you can find them pretty cheap too.

Actually... I don't think I noticed it before, but Monolith likes abreviations!

If you enjoyed FEAR, like i did, you should definitely get their other recent game, Condemned: Criminal origins. I got it for 360 but it's out on PC now as well. it's basically FEAR except instead of shooting people you bash their face in with whatever blunt object you find lying around

I make it point to not play games that give me nightmares... FEAR has gotten pretty much positive criticism though.

I try to buy every FPS that PC Gamer gives an 80% or better (starting in about 2001), and in comparison to those games i must say that FEAR is awesome and definitely in the top 5. It's system reqs are steep, and i strongly recommend 1 gig of RAM at least (i upgraded from 512mb mainly for this game and i noticed a huge performance boost). As for replayability, i must say i am VERY disappointed. What PC Gamer fails to mention is how the save system in FEAR works: At each checkpoint there is an autosave. However, at each checkpoint the game will automatically overwrite the previous autosave checkpoint. So, lets say u just finished an awesome fire-fight and made it to the checkpoint/autosave immediately following it. Wanna do that fire-fight over again? Too bad- you'll have to start at the beginning of the whole game and make sure to make your own custom save point just before that fire-fight. I havent played it in some months (HDD probs lately =\) but im fairly positive there is no Quick-Save feature. Basically you're stuck with the only-one-can-exist-at-a-time Auto-saves, and the "Save Game" option on your pause menu. But dont get me wrong- FEAR is amazing, with great graphics, great AI, lots of gore, and many scary moments (scarier and less repetitive than Doom 3 in my opinion). It's a must-buy, but a word of advice- Create your own save-game points at the beginning of each mission.

IMO, the top FPS's in my collection (in no particular order) are RTCW, the Call of Duty series, FEAR, Half Life 2, Counter Strike: Source, Doom 3, and Brothers in Arms. Can't say ive tried NOLF yet.

Quick save is F5 I think... but you're right, there's only one savegame file that's automatically created & overwritten.

and RTCW rocks my socks off. I'm a beast in ET too.

The savegame thing didn't annoy me at all. I guess I'm just used to games which don't give you many saves. After a while, you learn the best times to save.

As for the nightmares - FEAR was definitely scarey, but it didn't give me nightmares. One recommendation though: don't play it at night - especially if you live out in the bush, with things that go bump in the night!
