Default Surround Sound Help

I've come to ask the wise people of the PCGF again for help.

I'm attempting to set up my surround sound as we've just moved house, prior to moving it all worked fine and dandy, but now I'm only able to have one section working at a time (Front, Back, Sides). I have a decent sound card and if you tell me how to find out what type it is i will be able to tell you.
My eternal thanks go to the person who is brave (or stupid) enough to help me solve this task.

I suppose I could try to help. You say that first you need help knowing what kind of card it is? Well:

Right click on "My computer" and left click on Properties. A system properties window pops up. Click the "Hardware" tab. Click the "Device Manager" button. You'll see a list of all your hardware. Look for "Sound, video and game controllers" and click on the plus sign next to it to expand the info. You'll most likely see a few entries under this, but one of them in particular will be your actual sound card. Type them all out in your next post if you need help.

Also, let me know if there are any question marks or exclamation points next to anything in the sound card section. If so, you've got some problems with how your Windows is seeing your sound card.

This is just step one. We'll go from here.

I can help too, but before I go any further, anwser this. Is your surround speakers set up excatly the same way they were before with the same computer hardware? That's the first question.

Two kind souls here to help!

Sorry about taking so long to reply, i had two pieces of anti-virus software running, which stopped my computer working. Took a few hours to figure it out. I'm really quite clueless when it comes to computers.

----- anyway -----

When it comes to the sound card only one port(?) permits my speakers to work. So I can I have my front speaker/sub woofer working, or my right and left speaker working or the ones behind, but not all at the same time, so whilst i'm pretty sure it is set up as before i don't think it matters as i can only get one section to work at a time.
