Default Painkiller special edition wont load up on my computer.

I just recently picked up painkiller special edition at a store and loaded it up on my computer. I have a high end pc that can play any game so the game installed perfectly without error until I tried loading it up a error message popped up saying that it could not initialize Direct x 9 renderer? I have no idea what that means and was wondering if someone could tell me because I am very confused. it said on the package that the minimum is a direct x8 or higher and I have the highest requirement so far and I am wondering what the problem is? anyone know?

It should work, what versions of the ATI drivers are you using? If not the latest, try installing Catalyst 6.2 for Windows XP...

And in my opinion, it will work with anything more recent than the ATI Radeon series listed below...

Try to reinstall DirectX9. Or you can run "dxdiag" to verify you do in fact have DX9.
