Default Headphones for gamers - Sennheiser 555/595 or Beyerdynamic 770Pro/990Pro ?
Hello everyone.
I know, there is milion threads about hs for gamers, but i want to concentrate only on those models.
I hear Sennheiser's in the market - 555 are ok, but 595 are great! Price is higher and i'm not shure if its worh it.
I can buy BD 770Pro or 990Pro almost in the same price as 555's but i have no chance to find them in the local market.
I'm not shure that should be open or closed system headphons. I'm a gamer, i have got family, and when they sleep in other room, or my wife watching tv in the same room that i'm playing - i don't want to disturb them.
What do you think about it ?
Sennheisers are VERY comfortable... what about Beyerdynamics ? I got pretty big ears so i need comfortable headsets.
My previous was some wireless Senheisers (poor quality - broken all the time), Plantronics Audio 90, Medusa 5.1, Koss UR20, Steelsound 5H (too small!!!).
I really need experts advice (i mean users who using those headphones )
thank you,

I've got a pair of Sennheiser HD555's and they are awesome. Highly recommended. They are super comfortable and the sound is amazing. Best headphones I've ever used. As for the noise level to others...I'm not sure. They are an open design so other people can definately hear them when you're using them. I don't know. I guess it depends too on how loud you crank the volume when playing.

I use the HD 600's with a headphone amp. I tried a few other brands before buying this setup and I couldn't be happier. If you get the higher end model, you may want to look into a headphone amp. It'll really make them come alive. Good luck!

Well, he's using them with his computer so he shouldn't need an amp...I would think...especially with an X-Fi Fatal1ty. Maybe I'm wrong though...

Sure he doesn't need an amp, but it does add quite a bit to the experience. A good analogy I read somewhere was ..its like driving a corvette with a civic's engine. If you got about $200 to burn, just get one from a store with a return policy and give it a try.

yes, i'll be using them with x-fi fatality (front panel or not ?) and i will not be able to buy any external amp.
Beyerdynamics 770/990Pro are only 250ohm version, Sennheiser595 are 50 ohm version.
Hmmm... i have to decide before weekend

the 770pro are bass monsters, possibly the most bass u can get out of a can. Not saying that thats all they have, but they do sound good, just extend low and they need an amp. Not sure on the 990pros. I myself use sennheiser HD580's and Beyerdynamic DT258-80's for my main setup running off a pimeta amp hooked to my x-fi. I get good results with that on both phones. Not sure how far your willing to stretch your budget but I would say go with the HD595's, more refined than the HD555 sound and pretty easy to drive straight out of a soundcard. But Either way you can't go wrong. As for comfort the 595 should fit the bill, when i tried them they seem to float on my head, beyerdynamics are known to be vicegrips when you first get them, but they loosen over time to a more comfortable setting.

Sennheiser's HD series are extremely comfortable and surprisingly light. Some people are put off by the sound leakage that an open style headphone produces but the payoff is a more nature sound. If you are not going to use a headphone amp then the Sennheiser's with their lower impedence will be driven easier by your X-Fi soundcard.

I find it hard to believe that an amp would make any difference when being driven from the sound card. Sure if it was being used with a mp3 player it would make a HUGE difference...but from the sound card?... My HD555's are stunning from my X-Fi. It's unbelievable really. I guess I'm just sceptical. Maybe I should find an amp to try...
