I have already asked two Gothic 2 tech help forums the following question, but I'm asking it here as well because I feel this forum gives me one of the best chances to actually get this resolved (as the two English Gothic 2 tech forums have had 30 or less posts in the last month)... Anyways, hopefully someone here will know something about the problem, all I'm asking for is some insight as to what the problem might be, or what the problem even IS.

My problem is there are blochy 'highlights' in all indoor areas in Gothic 2. The characters and menus are always fine, as are outdoor areas.

Important specs :
GPU : geforce6800GT AGP
CPU : Pentium 4 3.0c
OS : Windows XP Home SP2

Here's the steps I've taken to try to fix the problem :

I recently reformatted (like 2 weeks ago), before then I wasn't having this problem with Gothic 2... Now I do have this problem, and I haven't changed much from my previous setup...

I was running the nvidia 84.21 drivers, but I uninstalled them and installed 85.96 betas, no change. I don't want to go back to 7x.xx series because then many of my other games wouldn't work, and right now only Gothic 2 doesn't work. Also, the 9x.xx series is very flawed...

I've completely uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times. The latest time I installed just Gothic 2, I actually own 2 versions of the game, a UK version without NotR that I imported a while ago, and the Gothic 2 Gold. I tried just installing the UK Gothic 2, but that had the same exact result. I have also used both of my disk drives (but I have only installed to one HDD each time), and I can confirm that the copy protection is not causing this problem. Also, it's not a damaged disk or bad read of a disk, because I've used 2 different sets in 2 different drives.

I've reverted my graphics driver settings, there is no change with any graphic card setting. Also, I have tried deleting my Gothic2.ini file and running at 800x600x16, this makes no difference either.



I have seen 3 or 4 other people on various English forums that have reported this problem, but there was never a solution. One person said they reformatted and then didn't have the problem anymore. One person said they were using Windows MCE and went to XP SP2 (which I'm already using).

I think that's all for now, I really hope to get a solution for this problem, thank you in advance.

[edit : wanted to add, after lowering the graphics settings a lot, you can tell those white blotches are actually items overlaying the normal textures, I hope this helps someone help me, I'm still working on it myself.]
