This is a short guide to getting your Quake4 up to date and running with the latest patches, mods and maps that you need to play the game. Q4 has evolved a lot since the initial release last year, and most of the bugs and unbalanced features in the game have been fixed. The movement is really smooth and gameplay is faster. There are more maps. There are more competitions. There are more players.
Quake4 actually runs smoother than my Quake3 does now =] The r_lightscale command is now unlocked so 60fps solid is obtainable on a Geforce Ti4200 (I've tried it, and it's sweet). This is an old video card that costs under $100 on trademe, so I guess most people have better already.
Here is a CFG you can use to tweak your graphics. If you are afraid your PC won't handle Quake4 well, TRY THIS:

1) Quake 4 1.2
Quote:
The full 1.2 update will bring ANY previous version of the game completely up to date, and it includes the 4 new professionally made multiplayer maps as well as the QUAKEMAS multiplayer map pack.
We’ve also provided an incremental 1.1 to 1.2 update for anyone that had previously installed the 1.1 update – this is a smaller download but it will only operate if you’ve previously installed 1.1.
