Counterstrike 1.6 and winXP issues
Hey, I have been experiencing some issues lately with counterstrike 1.6 since upgrading from windows 2000 pro to windows XP pro SP2. Basically, there are 3 issues I've been seeing:
1) when I am in game my FPS drops alot 100-60, 100-30, etc
2) my choke stays at 0 almost constantly, then shoots to 50 for a few seconds periodically (almost all servers)
3) the game seems to lag behind all my shots and my movement (this makes me believe it's a driver issue)
I am not sure why there is an issue with my CS because I've had all my rates set correctly before upgrading my OS. It almost seems like the problem is dealing with either my chipset drivers or my video drivers although I've updated both of them to the most up to date versions for XP.
I'm 100% sure it's not my rates causing this issue because I've had no lag using win2k but the second I upgrade to XP I have issues. The rates I have always used for CS 1.6 are:
rate 25000
cl_cmdrate 100
cl_updaterate 100
fps_max 101
I have uninstalled and reinstalled video drivers (both catalyst and omega to see if either had an effect). Nothing helped. When updating drivers I deleted all previous drivers before installing new drivers so there is no "previous driver" issue. I have installed and reinstalled .NET framework 1.1 and 2.0 to see if either had an effect, but there was no difference so I uninstalled .NET 2.0. I have tinkered with CCC (when I had it installed) and ATI Tray Tools and used optimal settings for opengl, turned VSync off, lowered visual settings (even though I can run higher levels), adjusted screen resolutions both ingame and desktop, fastwrite on... still having the problem. If it is not a driver issue, then there is something I need to adjust with XP itself. I have attempted to optimize my XP settings by disabling unused apps from running in the background, virus/adware scans every other day, etc and still have seen no improvement.
Here are my comp specs:
WinXP pro with SP2 (all windows updates) and .Net Framework 1.1
AMD Athlon 64 bit processor 3000+ 1.84 GHz
ABIT AV8 motherboard
VIA K8T800 pro chipset (Hyperion Pro v5.08A drivers)
ATI Radeon x800 XL AGP 256 Mb - 8x/4x (Catalyst 6.5 drivers + no CCC)
Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG Bios
512 Mb DDR-SDRAM
19" SyncMaster 930B (analog) monitor
Any comments/help/advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
